In Chandigarh, on Tuesday, team Rajdhani Punjab opened up on their journey. A passout of Punjabi University in Patiala, Gurpreet Singh is the writer, director and producer of the Punjabi actioner. “When I wrote the story, there wasn’t a name as stellar as Yograjji to play the character.” Thinking it to be a long shot, he along with the team approached Yograj Singh and they were surprised when he came on board. “Since then, Bapuji has been a huge support at every step.”

Yograj Singh is elated about the project. “I am impressed by the young lot — Gurpreet and his team, they have put in a huge effort, are spirited. As the industry elder, it’s my responsibility to support them through their ambitious endeavour.” The film sees lots of theatre artistes as well — Vivek Mishra, Lakha Lehri and MK Joshi. In fact, Joshi doubles up as a director along with Gurpreet. The film is an entertainer first, and carries a timely and relevant message, the two directors chime.

As Yograj continues his journey in films and as a cricketing coach, he thanks the almighty for letting him lead the life that he is. “When I go to the ground in the evening, I see so many children looking up to me, their parents full of dreams. The other day, a man with a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter asked me to train her. I am blessed to have so much love and respect.”

As proud of his son Yuvraj, and his cricket academy students, he is also full of praise for his daughter Amarjot Kaur, who is a tennis player. “Lots of people come asking me for her hand in marriage, but my focus for my daughter is that she should have her own standing in the world, just like Yuvraj!”

“Yograj Singh de asool na tut sakde ne na jhuk sagde ne” is a dialogue in the film, and those values have stood the test of time,” he signs off.
