YRF announces its first OTT series ‘The Railway Men’ based on 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy

On the 37th anniversary of Bhopal Gas Tragedy, Yash Raj Films (YRF) begins its OTT journey by announcing its maiden project for the platform. Titled ‘The Railway Men’, to be made under its digital banner YRF Entertainment, the series features R Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyendu and Babil Khan in the lead roles.

Sharing a poster on his Instagram, R Madhavan wrote, “Some stories need to be told. Honoured to be a part of @yrfentertainment ‘s first BIG OTT project #TheRailwayMen – a tribute to the unsung heroes of 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy that happened 37 years back.”

Bhopal Gas Tragedy was a gas leak incident on the night of 2–3 December 1984 in Bhopal and it is among the world’s worst industrial disaster. Over 500,000 people were exposed to highly toxic methyl isocyanate gas.  ‘The Railway Men’, a limited series, will be a tribute to the railway workers who were the unsung heroes of the gas tragedy. Shiv Rawail makes his directorial debut with the series that’s about the resilience of human spirit in the face of a disaster.

The show began filming on December 1 and Yash Raj Films’ senior vice president Akshay Widhani says, “The Bhopal Gas Tragedy is the world’s worst industrial disaster that has impacted scores of people since the tragedy struck the city 37 years ago. At YRF, we are constantly trying to develop the best compelling stories for audience and this is our tribute to the unsung heroes of the tragedy who, despite saving thousands of lives on that fateful day, are still unknown to people across the world.”

The YRF team says ‘The Railway Men’ is their salute to the spirit, courage and humanity of the railway workers.

YRF Entertainment’s ‘The Railway Men’ will stream on December 2, 2022, as a homage to humanity and colossal sacrifice in the wake of a crisis that shook the nation.
