Zohaeb Farooqui will soon be seen in the web series Inspector Avinash

How did you get the web series Inspector Avinash?

I auditioned like every new talent. Opportunities don’t come your way unless you start knocking on the doors.

What is your role in the show?

I play the role of a college student from Uttar Pradesh. It has a very good premise. It is based on the life story of a police officer. We enjoyed shooting it in various parts of India and I am sure the audience is going to love it too.

Why did you choose OTT for your acting debut?

OTT is buzzing with good content from all over the world and I wanted to be a part of this space. I also think the OTT boom is just amazing. It’s an absolute game-changer. I watch a lot of content on OTT.

What about films?

I eat, drink and sleep movies. I would like to do films but then theatres are shut in Mumbai and the industry is moving at a slow pace. That is why I decided to start with OTT and gradually move to the big screen.

Who is your inspiration in Bollywood and why?

All good actors are my inspiration, because everyone is unique in their own way. The Khans, be it Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan or Aamir Khan. Also, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor have their unique strengths. I admire and look up to them all.

Do you have any formal training in acting?

Yes, I have taken formal training in acting from Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods International. The experience there has been fantastic as one gets to learn many technicalities along with the art form. At the institute, they also help in developing your personality.

How important are good looks for an actor?

In this industry, I think more than looking good, you need to be charismatic. You should be honest and give out good vibes, which should reflect in your personality.

If not an actor, what other profession would you have chosen?

I never thought about it. I have wanted to be an actor since I was a child. I believe one shouldn’t have a plan B when you are sure about your plan A.

How has the pandemic changed your life?

It made me calm and I started to enjoy my own company. It has also made me realise what I need and what I want. It has given an opportunity to identify my genuine friends and taught me the value of prioritising. I am more responsible as a person and more career-oriented now than what I was before.
