Shimla, March 23
Umang Foundation, a charitable trust, has urged Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur to exempt blood donation work from the lockdown as there was an acute shortage of blood in all 22 blood banks of Himachal.
Ajai Srivastava, chairman of the foundation, in a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, urged him to consider blood donation work as an “essential service” during the lockdown. He said if blood donation camps were not organised, lives of hundreds of patients could be in danger.
He said blood donation camps had not been organised in the state for more than 10 days amid fears of Covid. However, the health department had issued an advisory that blood donation camps could be organised after taking certain precautions. But, now it would be a difficult task, he added.
