The Faridabad police nabbed a criminal after a brief encounter at the Gurugram-Pali road on Sunday night. The accused had demanded an extortion of Rs 1 crore from a textile businessman. The police also arrested his accomplice on Monday.
According to the police, the main accused was identified as Karan Garhwal (22) while his accomplice was identified as Shad Qureshi (21), both residents of Dabua Colony in Faridabad.
A police spokesperson said on April 27, a case of extortion of Rs 1 crore was registered at the Saran police station. Bullets were also fired at the house of the complainant.
A team of the Sector 30 crime branch unit received information regarding Karan on Sunday night, when he was roaming near Hanuman Temple. The team reached the spot and the accused open fire on officials in an attempt to flee away. In a retaliatory action by the police team, Karan was shot in his right leg, following which he was admitted to hospital for treatment. An FIR of murder attempt was also registered against the accused at the Surajkund police station and an illegal pistol with cartridge was seized from him.
“During interrogation, Karan revealed that on the instructions of his friend, Kamal Bhadana, he and his other associates had fired shots at the house of a cloth merchant in New Janta Colony and he had been hiding in Uttar Pradesh ever since the incident took place. On June 15, he came to his home in Dabua Colony, when he was arrested by the police. Karan already has five cases registered against him. He was produced in a city court on Monday and later sent to judicial custody,” said a spokesperson for the Faridabad police.
The other accused, Shad Qureshi, was also arrested by the police on Monday. During interrogation, he revealed that he chose Haridwar as a hideout and then went to his acquaintance’s village, Mawana in Uttar Pradesh.
“We have taken Shad Qureshi in one-day police remand. Two accused, Rankit and Mithilesh, have already been arrested in the case,” added the spokesperson.
