In many homes, it is essential to have an entrance foyer which starts from the front door and provides entry to the rest of the house. The entrance should be designed so that it adds an element of warmth, gives a good first-impression and reflects the overall decor of the house.

Hang a chandelier

If you want to create a grand entrance, introduce a chandelier to give the space an opulent look. A crystal chandelier will add sparkle and effortlessly add a luxurious touch to the entrance foyer.

Install a huge mirror

If the entrance foyer is very small, fix a huge mirror that can double the size of the entrance and bring in a sense of openness within a compact space. The best part about mirrors is that they reflect a lot of light and make a small space look bigger. Another plus is that a mirror is ideal at the entrance because it allows to you to give yourself one last look before you leave your home.

Introduce a wallpaper

A patterned wall covering can give the entrance foyer a bold and eye-catching look. Note that this is one of the easiest ways to instantly lift the look of an existing entrance foyer.

Bring in a console

A console adds a lot of style and function to the entrance foyer. It is an ideal spot to keep your favourite decorative pieces, fresh flowers in a vase, table lamps and so on. Make sure that the console has a set of drawers which can be used for keeping your keys and letters. Alternately you can keep a designated space for your keys on the wall so that you can hang the key and won’t misplace these.

Soft lighting

Introduce recessed cove lighting or soft lighting within the ceiling to bring in an element of warmth that create a welcoming ambience. Remember that a dark entrance foyer can give the space a gloomy look.

Accessorise the space

Add paintings, prints, abstract art, mementos, wall murals, souvenirs or wall sculptures that can add an element of interest. Buddha-inspired wall pieces bring in a lot of serenity and tranquillity into the space.

Introduce a shoe rack

A shoe cabinet at the entrance is an essential addition to most Indian homes as it ensures that one removes their shoes before they enter the house. This also helps to create a dust free home that is free from outdoor pollutants and dirt trapped in the shoes.

A well-designed front door

Classic wooden doors embellished with decorative brass handles are a great way to create a grand entrance foyer. Consider an antique door to give an artistic look to a traditional home.

Add some greens: Indoor plants are a great addition to the entrance foyer as they not only add life but also reduce indoor air pollution. Istock

Place to sit down

A seating is a great place for sitting down and wearing your shoes before you leave the home. It is advisable to go for soft, cosy or textured fabrics for the seating so as to bring warmth into this small yet highly functional space. You can also consider a pair of ornate chairs as they can add a lot of personality to the entrance foyer.
