Father-son duo arrested for murder of 32-year-old man

A 32-year-old man was allegedly murdered. His body with multiple injuries was found in a well under mysterious circumstances in Jagatpur Jattan village, near Phagwara, on Friday evening.

On a complaint lodged by Resham Lal, father of the deceased, the police registered a murder case against two accused, identified as Kapil Dev and his son Gerry, residents of Jagatpur Jattan village.

According to the police the deceased, Sukhvinder Kumar, had left his home on the evening of July 16, reportedly to attend to some work. He was last seen outside his house with his elder brother Bhupinder Singh. Before leaving, Sukhvinder had a phone conversation with one Kapil Dev, a local resident, and later with his son. It is alleged that Sukhvinder left with Gerry that evening.

On July 17, at 8 pm, Gerry returned to Sukhvinder’s residence with his mobile phone and some personal belongings. According to family members, he informed them that Sukhvinder would be staying with him after finishing his work.

The following day, concerned by the continued absence of Sukhvinder, his family members launched a search. They eventually confronted Gerry, who allegedly led them to a nearby well on the property of a man identified as Mehnga Singh. Gerry reportedly pointed to the well, suggesting Sukhvinder’s body had been disposed of inside it. The police was informed immediately.

The police registered an FIR against Kapil Dev and his son Gerry. The police confirmed that father-son duo were arrested. Further investigation is in progress to determine the motive behind murder and to confirm the sequence of events. The victim’s body was sent for post-mortem examination. Forensic teams are assisting the police in the inquiry.
