GITAM Deemed to be University, one of India’s premier higher education institutions with campuses spread over in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, celebrated its 16th convocation at its Hyderabad campus.

A total of 6,500 degrees were conferred upon students from diverse disciplines, including engineering, pharmacy, architecture, management, humanities, law, science and paramedical sciences.

The university also conferred Honorary Doctorates on three distinguished individuals for their outstanding contributions to society.

According to a press release, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) former Director Dr B Venkatraman received the Honorary Doctor of Science (DSc) for his pioneering work in nuclear engineering and non-destructive evaluation, advancing India’s defence and aerospace capabilities. Renowned social entrepreneur and inventor of a low-cost sanitary pad-making machine Arunachalam Muruganantham was conferred the Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) for his transformative impact on menstrual health awareness and rural livelihoods. A pioneering leader in India’s infrastructure sector R Venkateswara Rao was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) for of his exceptional contributions

NASSCOM former President Dr Kiran Karnik attended as chief guest. GITAM President and Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat shared the university’s vision of fostering relevance-driven education for national transformation.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Errol D’Souza, Hyderabad Campus Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof DS Rao and Registrar Dr D Gunasekharan congratulated the graduates.
