GNDU reopens, exams from May 19
A sense of normalcy returned to Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar after the university announced conduct of examinations from May 19 onward. The classes and exams had remained suspended after cross-border hostilities between India and Pakistan escalated post the launch of Operation Sindoor.
The university suddenly wore a deserted look as students, especially those from outstation, left for their home for fear of war. But now, post ceasefire and announcement by the state government that school and colleges can open to normal functioning, the university too opened its premises.
The canteens at the hostels that are usually the epicentre of all activities were abuzz and students, including those who stayed back despite the tense situation, were seen enjoying conversation over meals.
“We are glad that normal activities have resumed. We had ensured that even a single student who remained behind in hostels was taken care of. We had arranged for ground floor rooms and even tiffin in case the canteen did not open,” said Prof HK Saini, Dean Students Welfare, GNDU.
Meanwhile, most students will return by May 17 as exams scheduled after May 19 will be conducted by the previously scheduled itinerary.
