The police seized 1.11 kg of heroin from two persons in the district over the past 24 hours.
According to police officials, the drugs were confiscated near Bamnikhera village on Saturday after officers intercepted the suspects, identified as Sunil and Balram. Acting on intelligence reports that the two were involved in drug peddling and were expected to pass through the area on a motorcycle, the police conducted a thorough search of the suspects and discovered heroin worth Rs 35 lakh. They were reportedly transporting the drugs for local sale.
The search and seizure were carried out in the presence of a gazetted nodal officer from the Education Department, as per the protocol for such operations. The suspects, who were unable to produce any valid documents or permits, were immediately taken into custody, according to Sub-Inspector Hanish Khan. A case has been registered. — TNS
