Initially, the police had registered the case as an accident, however, during investigation, it was found to be a case of murder. Phool Kanwar of Thana Kalan village, in a complaint to Kharkhoda police on July 25, alleged that his son, Sawant Kumar, sustained injuries in an accident on the intervening night of July 24 and 25.

After being informed of the incident by his nephew, Pawan, Kanwar reached a Community Health Centre (CHC), where his son died during treatment.

When the family went to the accident spot, they found out that an SUV vehicle had hit the victim’s scooter from the back, after which the driver of the car fled the spot. However, the car was overturned in the incident.

While the incident was originally lodged as an accident case, Phool Kanwar lodged a supplementary complaint on suspicion that the incident was a planned murder.

He alleged that his grandson’s friend, Vikas, was the one who hit the scooter intentionally. Following the complaint, the police added a murder charge to the case.
