Sonepat, April 10
Tension prevailed in Sandal Kalan village of Sonepat district when a group of miscreants,carrying weapons, allegedly attacked a mosque late on Sunday night, injuring 10 persons, including two women. When the attack was made, people were offering Namaz in the mosque.
The assailants vandalised the property in the mosque. The video of the assailants carrying sticks, rods and other weapons, meanwhile, went viral on social media. Commissioner B Satheesh Balan visited the village on Monday morning to meet the victims and villagers. A heavy police force was deployed in the village to maintain law and order.
Balan told mediapersons the incident was unprovoked. No tension had been reported from the village earlier. Even today, villagers ensured the safety and security of the affected community people in the village, he added.
Sixteen youths of the village were rounded up and were being questioned, he added. Cops said a case had been registered against Puneet, Vipul, Harbeer, Bachhi, Aman, Lalit, Sumit, Billu, Hariom, Sachin, Sagar, Rahul, Ravi, Paul, Anuj, Rohit, Ankit and others under Sections 148, 149, 323, 506, 452, 153A and 295 of the IPC and 10 accused – Puneet, Harbeer, Akhil, Sumit, Rupin, Rohit, Vanshaj, Jony, Vijay and Vipul – had been held.
