The police recovered a huge cache of illicit liquor worth several lakhs in the past 24 hours and a person was arrested in this connection.
A police official said the accused, identified as Nitin (24), a resident of Meerut but currently living in Lakkarpur here, was nabbed after the police raided a spot near Anangpur village in the Surajkund area last night.
Four persons, including Nitin were present at the spot. However, three of the accused, identified as Sonu, Bunty and Sanjay managed to give slip to the police from the spot where the vehicle containing the liquor was parked.
An official said while 81 boxes (cartons) had country-made liquor, 19 cartons had IMFL and beer bottles. The accused who was nabbed could not produce any document or license for the possession of the liquor being carried in the vehicle, it was claimed. He told the police the liquor had been procured from a vendor located at Anangpur and was scheduled to be taken to Sangam Vihar in Delhi for sale.
He said while a case was registered in this regard, a hunt was launched to arrest the accused who fled away during the raid. A car, two scooties and a motorcycle were also recovered from the spot.
