100 DAYS OF NAYAB SAINI GOVERNMENT: No major development projects for Rohtak, officials directed to plan ahead

In its first 100 days, the BJP government in Haryana has not announced any significant projects for Rohtak district. The lack of notable development, coupled with the continued poor condition of roads, sewerage and sanitation, has sparked criticism from local representatives.

The BJP’s loss in both the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat and all four Vidhan Sabha constituencies in the district during recent elections is seen as a possible reason for the lack of focus on Rohtak’’s development.

Congress MLA from Rohtak, Bharat Bhushan Batra, expressed frustration over what he termed “step-motherly treatment” of the constituency. He alleged that the BJP government has ignored Rohtak during both his current and previous terms as MLA, from 2019 to 2024.

“Not even a single big project has been announced for Rohtak by the BJP government of Haryana in the first 100 days of its fresh term. The condition of roads, sewerage and sanitation in the city continues to be pitiable,” said Batra. He further said, “I will raise these issues emphatically in the state Vidhan Sabha and work to get the pressing concerns of residents addressed.”

Contrarily, local BJP leader Ashok Khurana defended the government, noting that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had announced a railway underpass for Rohtak. He also stated that residents’ grievances were being addressed regularly.

Rohtak Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dhirendra Khadgata has instructed all district officers to prepare a 100-day development plan in line with the Chief Minister’s guidelines.

“The officers should send the list of development works related to their departments for foundation stone laying or inauguration within a week,” Khadgata stated. He emphasised resolving complaints related to drinking water, sewerage and stormwater, urging officers to propose solutions based on future demand.

The DC also directed officers to compile a list of unauthorised colonies and warned that the district administration would prevent their development. “Campaigns will be run at regular intervals against such colonies,” he asserted.

Additionally, Public Works Department (PWD) officials have been asked to inspect and repair damaged roads on the city’s outskirts to avoid inconvenience to residents. Khadgata encouraged inter-departmental coordination to ensure that proposals prioritise public interest.
