At the time when the country is celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to mark the 75th Independence Day and preparing for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, a 100-feet tall flagpole, erected at Meera Ghati Chowk in the city, is without the Tricolour for the over two months.

On January 26, Home Minister Anil Vij had unfurled the national flag on the 100-feet tall flagpole, which was installed by the Karnal Smart City Limited (KSCL), under the Smart City Mission.

As per the information, the Tricolour got damaged in May and was removed, but a new flag was not unfurled here, leading to resentment among residents.

Yudhveer Saini, councillor of the ward, said he had brought the issue to the notice to the authorities of the Karnal Smart City Limited, but the pole is still waiting for the Tricolour.

“We are celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and appealing to people to unfurl the national flag at their houses, but in our city, the tallest flagpole is without the national flag for over two months,” he said, adding that I demanded the authorities to unfurl the national flag here.

Anish Yadav, Deputy Commissioner and CEO of the KSCL, said earlier, the Tricolour was unfurled here, but got damaged due to high wind velocity. “A new Tricolour will be placed on the poll by August 10,” the Deputy Commissioner added.
