100 Mathana homes to get gas from village plant in first phase

The civil work for the first phase of the Gobardhan project for providing gas connections is expected to be completed by March-end. The biogas plant is being set up at Mathana village. The project is coming up at a cost of Rs 90.95 lakh at Mathana of Pipli block. A biogas plant is being constructed and in the first phase, gas connections will be provided to 100 households in the village.

An official in the Panchayati Raj Department said Mathana village was selected for the pilot project under the scheme and the gaushala of the village would play a vital role in it. The gaushala has about 750 cattle and the dung will be used in the biogas plant to prepare gas. It will resolve the issue of cow dung, help in improving the sanitation condition in the village and also provide biogas to households through a pipeline on the lines of urban areas.

In the first phase, 100 households will be covered and more households will be covered in the second phase. The capacity of the plant can be increased as per the requirement. The user charges of gas connections will be fixed by the zila parishad.

The Executive Engineer, Panchayati Raj Department, Aman Kumar, said the civil work would be completed by March end and then mechanical work and the work to lay the pipeline would take nearly three months. The project is expected to be launched by July. The user charges to avail the facility is yet to be decided. An agency will be hired for the operation and maintenance of the plant.”

The Deputy Commissioner, Kurukshetra, Shantanu Sharma, said, “Mathana village was selected for the project in the district. The project was prepared under the Swacchh Bharat Mission Gramin. Of the total budget, Rs 50 lakh were provided under the SBM scheme. The construction work for the plant started in May 2023 and the target has been set to finish the civil work by March end. Officials concerned have been directed to ensure that the project is completed in time. Residents of Mathana village will be benefited from the project as they will get the cooking gas through pipelines on the lines of urban areas.”
