However, 148 such positions remain vacant despite the university's efforts to fill all posts. The authorities are now preparing to re-advertise the vacant posts and re-initiate the recruitment process.

Committed to filling all posts

We are committed to filling all vacant posts to provide better healthcare facilities to patients in the PGIMS. The remaining vacancies would be re-advertised soon so as to fill these posts at the earliest.

“In February, the UHSR advertised 251 vacant positions for senior resident doctors or tutors on a tenure basis across 46 specialties at PGIMS. After a rigorous document scrutiny, 272 candidates were found provisionally eligible and were invited for interviews held on March 24, 27, and 28,” said the sources.

Sources maintained that following the interviews, 103 candidates were selected, and their results were promptly uploaded on the university website the day after the last interview. Appointment letters were also issued to these selected candidates in a bid to mitigate the shortage of doctors at the earliest.

“The minimum qualification required for a senior resident doctor is a postgraduate degree in any medical specialty. These professionals play a crucial role in patient care, teaching and research at the medical college. They are responsible for providing clinical care, supervising junior residents, participating in daily patient rounds, and handling administrative tasks such as record-keeping and shift management. Similarly, the post of tutor requires a master of science (MSc) in any medical specialty, and they mainly focus on teaching and research,” said a UHSR official.

Meanwhile, Dr HK Aggarwal, Vice-Chancellor, UHSR, said they were committed to filling all vacant posts to provide better healthcare facilities to the patients in the PGIMS. The remaining vacancies would be re-advertised soon so as to fill these posts at the earliest.

When asked about the lack of interest from candidates, Dr Aggarwal explained that many candidates who have completed their postgraduate studies in Haryana also prefer working in medical colleges in Delhi or their home states.

The VC also mentioned that while the tenure of senior resident doctors is initially one year, it can be extended annually for up to three years. With the completion of many medical PG courses in the near future, the university remained hopeful that the vacant posts will be filled in the upcoming recruitment round, he added.
