1,084 challans issued for drunk driving in 20 days in Gurugram
The Gurugram traffic police have issued 1,084 challans for drunk driving in the past 20 days.
At present, 54 challans are being daily issued on an average to those driving under the influence of alcohol in the city.
The number of challans issued for drunk driving in 2024 was five times more than in 2023.
A senior police official said officials had expressed concern over the rising cases of road mishaps due to drunk driving during a road safety committee meeting. The Gurugram traffic police often conduct special campaigns against violators of traffic rules in the city.
“The Gurugram traffic police conducted a special campaign from January 1 to January 20, issuing 1,084 challans to drivers, including 10 women, found driving under the influence of alcohol. Four vehicles were also impounded during the campaign. The police have issued challans to 33,904 drivers for drunk driving since 2022. Effective action will continue to be taken by in future as well,” said DCP (Traffic) Virender Vij.
A senior traffic police official said during special campaigns against drunk driving, 1,081 challans were issued in 2022, 5,452 in 2023 and 26,287 in 2024.
“The objective of this special campaign run by the traffic police is to crack down on drunk driving and ensure orderly and safe traffic flow by ensuring compliance with traffic rules,” he added.
