A district-level women sports competition was organised on Thursday by the Women and Child Development Department at the Karana Stadium to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao' campaign. Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand was the chief guest. As part of the celebrations, 30 mothers of girls under the age of one were honoured and ‘Lohri’ festival was also celebrated in the name of daughters.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Anand highlighted the significance of the campaign, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi 10 years ago from Panipat. "Haryana has made remarkable progress in improving the sex ratio through awareness. While earlier the birth of daughters was not celebrated, but today, we are celebrating Lohri in their name. This reflects the positive change in societal mindset," said the MLA.

He further emphasised that girls today were excelling in every field and were equal to boys. "Women work with more dedication than men. The journey that started with PM Modi’s campaign was taken forward by then-CM Manohar Lal, and now CM Nayab Singh Saini is also introducing new initiatives for the welfare of daughters," he added.

District Programme Officer Seema Prasad and CDPO Dr Raj Bala Mor and others were also present there. In the 400-metre race, Renu won first place, while Savita secured second and Muskan was third. In 100 metres, Mamtesh won the first prize, while Kavita secured second and Babli remained at third position. In the 300 metres race, Simarjeet secured first position, while Shivani and Shakhi came second and third, respectively. In discus throw, Mamta secured first position, while Husan Devi won second and Kavita came third. In cycling race, Sapna won,while Sania secured second place and Rajni third. In the musical chair competition, Savita won the first prize, while Sonia secured second and Suman third.
