While returning home in the evening, their vehicle lost balance near Sardarewala village due to low visibility caused by dense fog and fell into the canal.

The Bhakra Canal was deep and had a strong water flow, making it extremely difficult for the passengers to escape. Despite the harsh conditions, one person and a child managed to get out and were immediately taken to Ratia Civil Hospital for treatment.

After confirming the details of the accident, Sadar Police Station in-charge Rajveer Singh stated that the Cruiser was carrying 14 people from Mehmara village, returning from Fazilka, when it fell into the Bhakra Canal due to heavy fog.

As soon as the news spread, a large number of villagers rushed to the spot despite the foggy conditions and joined the police in rescue efforts.

Tohana SDM Jagdish Chandra and DSP Sanjay Bishnoi also arrived at the scene to oversee the operation. The rescue operation continued late into the night, with both police officials and local villagers working tirelessly to find the missing passengers. Authorities are still searching for the remaining 12 people, and efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue them as soon as possible.
