As many as 120 aspirants have applied for Congress ticket from all four Assembly segments — Sadhaura, Jagadhri, Yamunanagar and Radaur — of Yamunanagar district.
Except for two sitting MLAs, a few former MLAs and some senior party leaders, most of the ticket seekers are new faces.
Sitting MLA Renu Bala, former MLA Rajpal, party leaders Rishi Pal, Brijpal Chhappar and Pinki Chhappar are among 27 persons who have applied for Congress ticket from reserved Sadhaura Assembly segment of the district. Six women — sitting MLA Renu Bala, Pinki Chhappar, Usha Kamal, Dr Shivani Brakh, Parminder Kaur and Nisha Rani — have also applied from here. Former MLA
Balwant Singh and senior party leader Data Ram are among the frontrunners of the party ticket in the BJP from this reserved Assembly segment.
From Jagadhri Assembly segment, as many as 23 persons, including former MLAs Akram Khan, Subhash Chand and Arjun Singh and party leaders Adarsh Pal Singh, Shyam Sunder Batra, Zakir Hussain, Rai Singh Gurjar and Manoj Jairampur, have filed party form for Congress ticket. However, only one woman — Harmeen Kaur Kohli — has applied for party ticket from here.
Haryana Agriculture Minister and Jagadhri BJP MLA Kanwar Pal Gujjar is a strong contender for party ticket from here. The BSP has announced the candidature of Darshan Lal Khera, a former president of Municipal Committee, Jagadhri, from this hot seat.
As many as 41 persons have applied for Congress ticket from Yamunanagar Assembly segment. The strong contenders for party ticket from this seat include Nirmal Chauhan, Dr Rajan Sharma, Raman Parkash Tyagi, Satpal Kaushik, Anil Kumar Goel, Raj Kumar Tyagi, Bhaskar Sharma, Vinay Sharma, Shyam Sunder Batra, Akash Batra, Gurbaj Singh, Virender Gupta and Rakesh Sharma alias Kaka.
As many as nine women including Nirmal Chauhan, Vinay Sharma, Dr Meenakshi Sharma, Sangeeta Aggarwal and Bhanu Batra have also applied from this hot Assembly segment.
Presently, Ghanshyam Das Arora is the BJP MLA from here. Former INLD MLA Dilbag Singh will be the INLD-BSP alliance candidate from here this time.
From Radaur Assembly segment, as many as 29 persons including present Congress MLA Bishan Lal Saini, former MP Kailasho Devi and party leaders Suresh Kumar Dhanda, Nillay Singh Saini and Nar Singh Pal have applied for Congress ticket.
Three women, including Suman Saini and Rubi Devi, have also sought Congress ticket. Former minister Karandev Kamboj and former MLA Shyam Singh Rana are in the race for the BJP ticket from here.
