13 properties sealed in Yamunanagar, Jagadhri over property tax dues
Owners owe civic body Rs 49.33 lakh
The Municipal Corporation, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) sealed 13 properties, including an engineering college, for not paying property tax dues.
These property owners owed the MCYJ Rs 49.33 lakh as property tax. Five of these properties were in the Jagadhri zone and eight in the Yamunanagar zone.
According to information, a few months ago, the MCYJ issued notices to the property owners who owed more than Rs 1 lakh property tax. After getting notices, some property owners paid the tax, but the properties of the defaulters were being sealed.
On the instructions of Commissioner of the MCYJ Mahabir Parsad, separate teams were formed to seal the properties in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri zones. As per available information, a team comprising Regional Taxation Officers Sanjay and Raghuveer Singh arrived at an engineering college in Jagadhri late in the evening on Thursday and sealed the college’s main gate. The college reportedly had to pay a property tax of Rs 20.55 lakh.
The team of the MCYJ also pasted a notice on the gate, threatening legal action if the seal was opened without permission. In the Jagadhri zone, three other commercial properties were sealed. Similarly, in the Yamunanagar zone, a team led by Regional Taxation Officer Ajay Walia and Jitender Malhotra sealed eight commercial properties near Jagadhri Workshop road and Chandpur.
Mahabir Parsad said the properties of those, who did not pay property tax, would now be sealed.He said to avoid sealing action, the property owners should pay their outstanding property tax. He further said those whose properties had been sealed were warned several times by issuing notices.
“The defaulters were called to the MCYJ office for hearing on not paying the tax. The sealing action was taken on not paying the property tax even after the hearing. The properties of those who have property tax dues of more than Rs 1 lakh will be sealed,” said Mahabir Parsad.
He said to avoid sealing action, property owners should pay their property tax.
