Faridabad, July 23
The Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF) has set a target to seal around 160 unauthorised constructions that have come up in violation of the building bylaws in the city. The civic body sealed 14 such units in the past 24 hours.
An official of the civic body claimed that the drive against the violation of construction norms had been an ongoing exercise, and action was taken after the illegal constructions were detected in residential areas during a recent survey.
He said the department sealed some of the unauthorised constructions that had come up in the stilt-plus-four (S+4) floor buildings in the Sainik Colony here.
The official alleged that the builders or owners concerned had undertaken construction in the parking area. This accounts for the gross violation of norms set under the policy regarding S+4 buildings as no construction is allowed in the stilt parking space.
The authorities further alleged that the unauthorised usage of the space for residential and commercial activities was also detected in some areas.
A total of about 160 such constructions have been found in the survey. The constructions have been sealed after no response came to the notices served to the owners of such buildings, it is revealed.
A local resident, KL Gera, who had filed a PIL in the High Court over the issue a few years ago, alleged that the authorities had failed to conduct a thorough survey and a proper action against the violations whose number had been several times higher than official figure.
Blaming poor supervision and action against the violations, another resident Vishnu Goel said the menace of unauthorised constructions had adversely affected the civic amenities like roads, sewage, drainage and parking.
“Allowing the construction of stilt-plus-four floor buildings in densely populated sectors have wreaked a havoc as this has resulted in numerous problems related to the civic infrastructure and damage to old houses,” says Sumer Khatri, a resident welfare association activist here. He added that clogged sewers, poor water supply and parking issues had left local residents a harassed lot.
Tarun Chopra of Sector 49 said stressed that the policy allowing the construction of stilt-plus-four floor buildings should be banned and compensation be granted to the victims.
Satish Acharya, Legal Advisor, MCF, said the sealing drive against the building bylaws violations in stilt-plus-four floor constructions in the city had been underway and was expected to continue as per the directions and guidelines of the state government.
