159 kg ‘ganja patti’ seized in Mahendragarh, two arrested
In a major crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Mahendragarh police seized 159 kg of ‘ganja patti’ from a truck and arrested two persons involved in the illegal trade. The contraband, smuggled from Odisha, was being transported to Rajasthan when intercepted.
Sharing details, Mahendragarh SP Pooja Vashisth said, “We had received a tip-off while patrolling near the Nangal Choudhary toll plaza that Mukesh of Asalwas was transporting ‘ganja patti’ from Odisha to Rajasthan. Acting swiftly, a police team set up a checkpoint on the service road of Nangal Choudhary.”
During the operation, a truck loaded with cotton was stopped for inspection. Upon checking, sacks containing the narcotic substance were found hidden beneath the cotton.
“When asked to produce a licence or permit for the material, the truck driver, Mukesh, and his accomplice, Rajpal of Surajgarh, failed to provide any valid documentation,” the SP added.
Sources said that the seized narcotics weighed over 159 kg and had an estimated market value of Rs 20 lakh.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Nangal Choudhary Police Station.
“Further investigation into the case is underway,” police officials said.
