A 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her hostel room in Kalpana Chawla government polytechnic for women in Ambala City late on Thursday night.
She was a student of first year electronics engineering and had come to the hostel on January 31. She hailed from Nawada district of Bihar. No suicide note was found from the spot.
The extreme step taken by the girl at room number 44 on the third floor of the hostel has spread fear among the other hostellers.
Her body was shifted to Civil Hospital Ambala City for the post-mortem examination. Her family members were informed and her brother had reached Ambala from Delhi late in the evening on Friday.
At around 8 pm on Thursday night, she took the key from her roommates and went to the room. When her roommates found the room bolted from inside at around 10 pm, they informed the warden. Later, they found the girl hanging from the fan. She used two scarves to hang herself.
One of her roommates said, “She used to remain quiet most of the time and we have no idea what happened.”
