Gurugram, August 14

Under the Smart Grid project, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has initiated a plan to convert the overhead 11 kV feeder network into an underground system in South City and Kadipur subdivisions of Gurugram.

A total of 166 feeders — 102 in South City and 64 in Kadipur subdivisions — will be converted to an underground network. Out of these, 117 feeders have been physically completed, while construction on the remaining 49 is in progress. Of the completed feeders, 106 are operational, while 11 are yet to be charged.

The DHBVN has issued tenders and invited bids to complete the conversion of all 166 overhead feeders to an underground network. The new bidder will be required to finish the remaining work on the 49 incomplete feeders, including those that are not yet charged.

For the feeders that are physically completed but not yet operational, certain tasks related to their activation — such as cable rising, connection of distribution points (DPs) and equipment and optical fibre connectivity — may have been only partially completed. Any outstanding deficiencies will be addressed during the charging process. According to the tender, the firm awarded the remaining work must complete these tasks without any additional cost.

The 11 kV feeders being converted to underground networks will cover Sectors 44, 45, 46, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56 and 57 (under South City subdivision) and Sectors 10, 10A, 36, 37, 37A, 37B, 37C and 37D. These lines supply electricity from substations to transformers, which then distribute it to household consumers.

The Smart Grid project aims to reduce technical faults and short circuits, ensure uninterrupted power supply, prevent power theft, streamline the distribution system and reduce the risk of electrocution during the monsoons caused by overhead live wires.
