1,669 flats to rented out to industrial bodies in Sonepat
A total of 1,669 vacant flats of the Housing Board would be rented out to industrial associations for 20 to 25 years under the affordable rental housing complex (ARHC) scheme launched by the state government recently.
After the announcement of the rental scheme by the state government, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Manoj Kumar, along with administration officials, reviewed the condition of the flats in Sectors 60 and 10 of Kundli and also held a meeting with members of industrial associations.
The DC also reviewed the situation of the vacant plots in Sectors 10, 18, 19, 35, 63 and 8 of the Housing Board.
He said the government had started affordable rental housing schemes for migrant labourers, industrial labourers, students and other poor people. The main motto of this scheme was to provide rental houses to the beneficiaries at an affordable rent.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini had announced the scheme during the Budget Session and work had been started in this direction.
Manoj Kumar said the scheme was being implemented under two models and involved converting government-funded housing into the ARHCs. Basic amenities such as water, electricity, sanitation and kitchen area would be provided in the ARHCs. The rents under the scheme were affordable and determined according to the local market rates. The scheme was beneficial to those who came under the economically weaker sections (EWSs) and low income groups (LIGs) and worked in urban areas.
The ARHC scheme was an important step in reducing urban poverty and housing problems of migrant workers, he said.
The DC said in Sonepat, 66 flats constructed by the Housing Board were available in Sector 10, 366 flats in Sector 18, 239 flats in Sector 17, 3 in Sector 19, 58 in Sector 35, 930 flats in Sector 60, 4 in Sector 63 and three in Sector 8.
The DC said these flats would be allotted on rent to the industrial association only and the associations had to take these flats in whatever condition they were in and their repair work would be done by the associations concerned.
He added that these flats had 300 square feet area and despite being small, all basic facilities, including sewerage, were available in these flats.
The office-bearers of the Kundli Industrial Association (KIA) demanded the construction of a bridge between the TDI and HSIIDC in Sector 60. They further said that more than 900 flats were available there and if these were given to the industrial association, the workers would not have to cross the NH-44.
Following the demand, DC Manoj Kumar said the administration approval for the drain number 8 bridge had been received and soon the tender would be allotted for its construction.
The DC also appealed to them to visit these flats and after that, the flats would be allotted to the associations through auction.
KIA president Dheeraj Chaudhary, Paramhans Solanki of the Rai Industrial Association, Navin Kaushik and Amit from the Barhi Industrial Association were present at the meeting.
