Rs 19.20L recovered from cyber criminals in Faridabad

The Cyber Police Department have resolved five cases and recovered an amount of Rs 19.20 lakh in the past one week. A total of eight accused were arrested in this period.

A spokesperson of the Police Department here said the cyber police stations here had addressed a total of 119 complaints in which the cops were able to get a refund of Rs 2.07 lakh. Rs 4,88,874 were seized in bank accounts, during investigations carried out in the period between November 23 and November 29. He said the accused identified as Masoom Solanki, Manoj Kumar, Parth Kumar Ramesh Bhai Mehta, Raj Verma, Abhishek, Ankit, Varun, Shanku Chutela and Shoaib Khan were nabbed from various places like Delhi, UP, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. It is claimed while three cases were solved by the Ballabhgarh Police, two cases were cracked by the Central Cyber Police Station. He said surfacing of several cases of digital arrests by criminals posing as police, CBI or Crime branch had been a cause of concern despite the victims having a good educational background and overall awareness. The residents need to disconnect or block all suspected calls or from the callers who pose as officials of the bank or police and report the matter to the police or the cyber helpline 1930, he advised the general public.

The modus operandi of criminals could be in various forms or manner like Telegram tasks, attractive investment and handsome returns in a very short period. Opening of website links or providing OTP to unknown persons online could result in fraud, he said adding that the criminals could also resort to blackmailing through posting obscene videos and luring the people to deposit money with the help of QR codes. The messages for submission or clearance of power, water and property tax bills could be fake, it is added.
