19 teams inspect over 140 units in Sonepat, detect GRAP violations

Reports sent to CAQM for action

On the directions of the Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM), the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), in support with the district administration, today launched a campaign against polluting industries to enforce GRAP-3 stage restrictions in the district.

The teams inspected over 140 industrial establishments and found severe violations of CAQM provisions in several units. The reports have been sent to the CAQM for further action.

The AQI of Sonepat has been recorded as 'very poor' over the past 12 days.

DC Sushil Kumar Sarwan and DCP (Crime) Narender Kadyan constituted 19 teams led by four SDMs. As many as 55 officers, along with a large number of police personnel, conducted the checks. The DC said inspection was conducted in industrial zones of Rai, Barhi, Gannaur, Kundli, Nathupur, Kharkhoda, Murthal, Bahalgarh and Gohana road.

The CAQM implemented the action under GRAP-1, GRAP-2, and GRAP-3 on October 14, October 19, and November 11, respectively, in the NCR to curb air-polluting activities.

A temporary control room has been established at the rest house.

“In view of the increasing air pollution in the NCR, no negligence will be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against polluting units, and the provisions of GRAP-3 will be strictly enforced,” the DC said.
