19-year-old unmarried woman delivers boy in Jagadhri, abandons him

Yamunanagar, July 27

An unmarried 19-year-old woman delivered a baby boy reportedly in a toilet at the house of her maternal grandmother at Jagadhri on Monday.

Then, the woman allegedly abandoned the newborn in the rain on the terrace. The woman didn’t tell anyone about the delivery and the baby. She delivered the baby without taking help from anyone.

But a neighbour of her grandmother saw the child on the terrace and informed the neighbours.

Dr Anju Bajpai, Director of Child Helpline, Yamunanagar, said the woman and her baby were rushed to Civil Hospital, Jagadhri, where the baby was referred to PGI, Chandigarh.

The parents of the woman, who live in a colony of Jagadhri, have claimed that the woman is 19 years old. —TNS
