199 apply for Cong ticket from nine segments under Rohtak constituency

Besides political leaders, professors at university, school teachers, retired colonel, traders, health employee, municipal councillors and property dealers are in the race for the Congress party ticket for nine Assembly segments of Rohtak, Jhajjar and Rewari districts, falling in the Rohtak parliamentary constituency. A total of 199 aspirants have applied to get the ticket from here.

Lone contender from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi

  • Other than Bhupinder Hooda, no one has applied for the party ticket from the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi Assembly segment, which is being represented by him in Vidhan Sabha for the past five elections, while the highest 55 applications have been received from Kalanaur (reserved).
  • Twenty-eight persons each have applied each from Meham and Kosli, 23 from Bahadurgarh, 21 each from Beri and Badli, 12 from Jhajjar and 10 from Rohtak

Rohtak parliamentary constituency is considered a bastion of former Chief Minister and leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda as his three generations have romped home to victory in the Lok Sabha elections 10 times from here. At present, Deepender Hooda, son of Bhupinder Singh Hooda and grandson of Ranbir Singh Hooda, is the MP from Rohtak.

The Congress had invited applications from the aspirants till August 10. Other than Bhupinder Hooda no one has applied to contest from the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi Assembly segment, which is being represented by him in Vidhan Sabha for the past five elections, while the highest 55 applications have been received from Kalanaur (reserved).

“Besides this, 28 ticket aspirants have applied from Meham and 10 from Rohtak Assembly segments of Rohtak district. Twenty-three Congress men are willing to take the party ticket from Bahadurgarh, 21 each from Badli and Beri and 21 from Jhajjar (SC) of Jhajjar district while 28 aspirants have applied from Kosli segment of Rewari district,” said a source.

At present, the Congress has seven MLAs in Rohtak and Jhajjar district, BJP has one in Kosli and there is an Independent MLA in Meham. All seven Congress MLAs have applied for ticket to contest the poll.

For Rohtak Assembly segment, MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra, outgoing Municipal councillor Gulshan Ishpuniyani, former sarpanch of Bainsi village Krishan Lal Chhabra, trade leaders- Hemant Bakhshi and Gulshan Kumar Ishpuniyani, Advocate Ramesh Khurana, Surajmal Rose, Vipul Juneja, Yogesh Sharma and Mukesh Sheoran are vying for the ticket.

For Kalanaur, Congress MLA Shakuntla Khatak, retired colonel Aryavir, Manoj Bagri, Tanvir Singh Advocate, Satish Bandhu, Dr Anil Mehra, Viraj Kalra, Surender Sindhu, former sarpanch Kuldeep, Prof Basant Ladwal, Dr Sunil Kumar are among the aspirants.

Colonel (retired) Aryavir (80), a native of Sanghi village here, said after his retirement as Army officer at the age of 52 in 1996, he worked as Chief Vigilance Officer (NCERT), Special Metropolitan Magistrate in Delhi and Vice Chairman, Haryana State Commission for Scheduled Castes.

For Meham, Balram Dangi, son of former minister Anand Singh Dangi, MDU Teachers Association president Vikas Siwach, Ch Devi Lal University’s professors Manoj Siwach and Geeta Rani, Akhil Bhartiya Adarsh Jat Mahasabha’s national spokesman Deepak Rathi, Surendra Pawar, his wife Asha Panwar, Nirmala Balhara, Mahipal Singh Gill etc are among the ticket aspirants from this Jat-dominated Assembly segment.

For Beri segment in Jhajjar, MLA Raghubir Singh Kadian, former MLA Dr Virendra Pal Ahlawat, Advocate Vijender Singh Ahlawat, Surendra Ahlawat, Kadam Singh Ahlawat, Bhupender Ahlawat, Parveen Kumar, Jai Singh Malik and Anjeet Kadian are among the ticket aspirants.

For Jhajjar, MLA Geeta Bhukkal, Bijendra Singh Ranga, Niranjan, Bijendra Singh Balmiki, Ramesh Balmiki, Om Prakash Khangwal, Sanjeet Kablana, Rajendra Singh, Rajal, Dharam Singh, Rajnikant and Jai Prakash are in the race for ticket.

For Bahadurgarh seat, MLA Rajendra Joon, Rajesh Joon, Naresh Joon, Sachin Joon, Suman Lohchab, Vijendra Rathee, Sheela Rathee, Ramesh Dalal, Dr Jai Singh Malik, Kishan Lal Panchal are among the aspirants.

For Badli segment, MLA Kuldeep Vats, Rao Udai Bhan, Subhash Diwan, Jyotsana Dhankar Gulia, Jyoti Singh, Sarjit Gulia, Jugbir Singh, Udai Bhan Punia and Naresh Hassanpur are among those who have applied for ticket.

For Kosli seat, former minister Jagdish Yadav, former MLA Yadvendra Singh, Dr Anil Kumar, Advocate Sunita Yadav are among the ticket aspirants.
