19th annual sports event opens at Sirsa college

The 19th annual sports event of JCD Vidyapeeth was inaugurated on Friday.

The chief guest for the event was Ashok Garg, a wrestler and Arjuna Awardee. The event was chaired by JCD Vidyapeeth director general Dr Jai Prakash. Dr Ishwar Malik from Chaudhary Devi Lal University was the distinguished guest for the event.

The ceremony began with the flag hoisting by the chief guest. Dr Jai Prakash welcomed everyone, and emphasised the importance of sports for students’ overall development. He encouraged the students to take inspiration from Garg’s achievements, and strive to excel not only in academics but also in sports.

Garg, in his address, lauded JCD Vidyapeeth for not only excelling in education but also setting benchmarks in the field of sports.

He encouraged students to take part in sports as a way to stay healthy, build discipline and develop positive energy.

During the event, the 800-m race results were announced.

In the boys’ race, Pawan from Memorial College took the first place, followed by Mayank and Divyajeet from the dental college in the second and third positions, respectively. In the girls’ race, Veerpal from Memorial College bagged the first, Lovepreet from the engineering college secured the second prize, and Muskan from the teaching college the third.

University sports officer Dr Amrik Gill presented the annual sports report, highlighting the significance of such events in promoting physical and mental health.
