2 accounts branch staffers siphon off Rs 40L from cops’ TA
Karnal, February 19
The Civil Lines police have registered an FIR against employees of its accounts branch for allegedly siphoning off funds to the tune of around Rs 40 lakh. They had allegedly been transferring transport allowances (TA) of police employees to four accounts since 2013.
They used to increase the number of days for TA and also filled fake TA bills of the existing employees. Then, they would transfer the amount to four accounts — two were generated with fake unique IDs and on the IDs of Class IV employees of the department.
The issue came to light only after an anonymous complaint to SP Surinder Singh Bhoria. After getting it, an audit was conducted.
“As soon as the issue came to my notice, I had asked DSP Karnal Rajeev Kumar to conduct an inquiry. On the basis of the report of the DSP, an FIR had been registered at Civil Lines police station,” said the SP. He maintained that they have arrested ESI Sahab Singh and TA clerk Rajbir. “The SIT will conduct the inquiry to determine the actual amount which had been siphoned off by these employees,” he said.
He said that as they were doing this fraud for the past seven years, the involvement of employees appointed there during that period would also be probed by the SIT.
About the modus operandi of the accused policemen, he said that during preliminary investigation, it has come to light that they used to increase the number of days of TA applied by policemen and used to fill fake TA bills of existing employees.
“They used to give the actual amount applied by the policemen to them and transferred the remaining amount to four accounts generated by them,” said the SP. — TNS
