The police have arrested two alleged criminals carrying a reward of Rs 5,000 each in the district in the past 24 hours.
According to a police official, while one of the accused was wanted in a case of murder, the other had been involved in a case of peddling of drugs worth Rs 50 lakh. The officia said one Pappu Singh, alias Pappi, a resident of Sangrur district in Punjab, was nabbed after about two and half months of the recovery of around 593.5 kg of poppy husk.
The truck carrying was on its way to Punjab on June 14, when it was intercepted by the police near Mundkati police station. The accused was arrested from Sangrur yesterday. The second arrest made yesterday was connected with an incident of murder that took place in November 2012, when the accused, identified as Amir, had murdered one Makbool over a property dispute.
The victim was beaten to death before his body was dumped into a canal. Though three of the accused were arrested by the police soon after the incident, Amir absconded, resulting in the announcement of a reward of Rs 5,000 on his head.
