2 cow smugglers injured in Nuh encounter
The Nuh police nabbed two cow smugglers after a brief encounter near the Silkho hill area in Tauru on Tuesday. Both the accused sustained bullet injuries in their legs and were admitted to a medical college in Nalhar.
Two country-made pistols, one cartridge, five empty bullet shells, a knife, one axe, three cows, one motorcycle and other items were recovered from their possession.
The police said an encounter took place between the Tauru CIA team and cow smugglers in the Silkho hill area on the road leading to the district headquarters. The cow smugglers fired at the police, which also retaliated. In the encounter, two cow smugglers -- Salim, a resident of Pachgaon village and Sajid, resident of Nangal Mubarakpur --- were injured. They were admitted to Shaheed Hasan Khan Mewati Medical College, Nalhar, for treatment.
During the encounter, a policeman was saved by the bulletproof jacket he was wearing. On getting a tip-off, a team of the Tauru Sadar police station reached the spot and started investigation.
The Nuh police spokesperson said in the encounter in Silkho hills, two smugglers were injured during the retaliatory action. This is the third encounter between cow smugglers and the police within 14 days in the district. On March 18, three cow smugglers were injured in a police encounter near the railway track in Gurnavat village on the Tauru border, while three others escaped. In another encounter, two cow smugglers escaped in an encounter with the Nuh CIA team on the Nuh-Sohna road.
“These continuously increasing incidents have highlighted the strictness of the police against cow smuggling in the area. The investigation is going on and the police are searching for the absconding suspects,” said the spokesperson.
