The police have arrested two B-tech engineers for the murder of a 21-year-old auto rickshaw driver in DLF Phase 3. The accused beat the driver to death following a dispute about moving the auto to the side on Saturday night. Police officials said an FIR has been registered at the DLF Phase 3 police station.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Jaideep, a resident of Janta Colony, Rohtak and Mani Shankar, a native of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. The police said both are B-tech engineers who had previously worked together at the same company in Lucknow. Jaideep left the company in 2022 and opened a kitchen for food delivery in Gurugram. Mani Shankar left his job in Bengaluru in 2024 and came to Gurugram around 20 days ago in search of new employment.

On Saturday night, Jaideep and Mani Shankar were returning to Jaideep’s apartment after dinner when they encountered auto driver Sonu standing on the street, visibly drunk. Jaideep asked Sonu to move his auto to the side; however, Sonu responded by abusing Jaideep. A scuffle ensued and the two accused beat Sonu before pushing him. Sonu later died from severe head injuries while undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Sunday morning.

Sonu, originally from Dholi village in Gaya district, Bihar, had been living as a tenant in Nathupur village and worked as an auto driver. Following a complaint filed by the deceased’s cousin, an FIR was registered, and the police arrested both Jaideep and Mani Shankar from Nathupur village.

A police spokesperson stated, “Both the accused are B-tech engineers and we are currently questioning them.”
