The Mohali police have booked two Haryana-based immigration agents, Gurjinder Singh Antal and his partner Mukul, for trafficking, misappropriation of property, and cheating a resident of Khera, Sialba Majri, Taranveer Singh, of Rs 45 lakh.
Taranveer was among the 67 Punjab deportees who arrived at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar by a special flight on Saturday night. According to the complainant’s statement, the duo was introduced to him by his friend Gursharan Singh.
Taranveer had handed over his passport to the duo on July 10, 2024, and was promised to be sent legally by flight to the US for Rs 45 lakh. Taranveer’s father paid Rs 18 lakhs to the duo when his son reached Colombia, where he was held up for four months.
He was later taken to Mexico, after which the agents demanded the remaining amount. A case has been registered under Sections 143, 316 (2), 318 (4) of the BNS and 24 of the Immigration Act at the Majri police station.
Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek said, “A complaint was received, and action was taken. All the other US deportees have been asked to meet the police and discuss their cases tomorrow.” Police have reached Ambala to nab the suspects.
