The Gurugram cyber police have arrested two individuals for providing a bank account and SIM card to cyber fraudsters involved in duping people under the pretence of taxi bookings for the Maha Kumbh.

According to the police, a complaint was filed by a man who was cheated out of Rs24,000 while attempting to book a taxi for the Maha Kumbh on February 10. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Cyber Crime South Police Station.

During the investigation, the cyber police arrested two accused from Sector 45, Noida, on Thursday. They were identified as Raj and Raja, residents of Sadarpur Colony, Sector 45, Noida.

The police revealed that the defrauded amount was deposited into Raj’s bank account, while the SIM card used for the calls was registered under Raja’s name.

“The accused had sold the SIM card and bank account to another accused. The accused had sold the SIM for Rs1,000 and the bank account for Rs10,000. We are questioning the accused,” said Priyanshu Dewan, ACP Cyber.
