The incident occurred when the family was asleep at their house in Adarsh Colony.
As the assailants barged into the house and opened fire at the girls, hitting one in the chest and the other in the hand, the other family members raised an alarm. The assailants fled the spot. The family informed the police and rushed the injured to hospital.
Police said a dispute had occurred some days ago between the father of the victims and the accused. He had filed a complaint with the police. However, he was being pressed by the accused to withdraw the complaint. When he refused to do so, they fired at the girls, police said.
The victims have been identified as Tarannum (13) and Jasmine (10), daughters of Naushad. Their grandfather, Noor Hasan, said he woke up hearing the gunshots and found the girls bleeding while lying on the floor.
Noor Hasan said his son, Naushad, had a tiff with Sonu, Mitta, Rahul, Ajay, residents of Singhana; and Biru and Satish, residents of Adarsh Colony.
The police have registered a case against Sonu, Mitta, Rahul, Ajay, Biru and Satish.
