2 more testing labs to come up at Karnal, Nalhar

The state government will establish two more laboratories with facilities to test Covid at the government medical colleges in Karnal and Nalhar in Mewat.

Two such laboratories are already functional at Rohtak PGIMS and BPS Medical College for Women, Khanpur Kalan (Sonepat).

The government also released Rs 4.50 crore for Rohtak-PGIMS today for the purchase of more ventilators and other equipment required at the intensive-care facilities in order to strengthen Covid preparedness.

The decisions were taken at a meeting held through videoconferencing chaired by Haryana Additional Chief Secretary (Medical Education and Research) Alok Nigam and attended by Rohtak-based University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor OP Kalra, Registrar Dr HK Aggarwal, PGIMS Director Dr Rohtash K Yadav, Nodal Officer Dr Dhruv Chaudhary and the directors of other medical colleges.

Kalra said Rohtak PGIMS had also launched a 24×7 helpline no. 9416447071 in addition to the state’s helpline no. 8558893911. He said moves were afoot to curtail OPD timings, postpone elective surgeries and give leave to the first, second and third-year students of MBBS and other allied courses.

Authorities have advised patients with minor ailments to postpone their visits to OPDs for their safety. “State health authorities have also issued an advisory to provide medicines for 30 days instead of 15 days to patients suffering from chronic diseases requiring regular medication so as to reduce rush in OPDs,” said Dr Kalra.

The BJP has initiated a statewide campaign to create awareness on Covid.

Rohtak-PGIMS had also launched a 24×7 helpline no. 9416447071 in addition to the state’s helpline no. 8558893911. State health authorities have also issued an advisory to provide medicines for 30 days instead of 15 days to patients suffering from chronic diseases requiring regular medication so as to reduce rush in OPDs.
