Gurugram, January 15
The Nuh police have arrested four home guards, two special police officers (SPO) and a former sarpanch on the charge of extortion. They allegedly extorted money from owners of overloaded mini-trucks.
Fearing action, the owners of these vehicles carrying illegally mined stones had paid them the amount demanded. A case has been registered at the Punhana police station and departmental action has been initiated against them.
The suspects have been identified as former Sarpanch of Baded Aslam, SPOs Ilyas and Ravinder, and home guards Bisram, Fajjar, Javed and Sakir.
The extortion gang led by Aslam would target overloaded mini-trucks carrying stones from Nangal in Rajasthan. Two employees of the Mining Department were also reportedly involved in the crime. Police spokesperson said a team received an information that Aslam was extorting money from owners of the overloaded vehicles at the Dondal checkpoint.
Another police team reached the Dondal block and arrested the suspect. During interrogation, Aslam confessed to having committed the crime.
A case was registered under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, following which Aslam was produced in the court and later sent to two-day police remand.
“We suspect the involvement of some mining and other government officials as well. We have also received an audio recording of their conversation with the drivers,” said Nuh SP Narender Bijarnia. — TNS
