Sonepat, November 13
Two women were killed and 22 other passengers were injured when a Volvo bus, in which they were travelling, overturned near Beeswan Meel Chowk on the NH-44 around 6 am on Wednesday.
After receiving the information, the police with ambulances reached the spot and took the injured persons to the local Civil Hospital. Doctors declared two of the passengers, identified as Seema and her relative Neenu of Amritsar, as brought dead.
Seriously injured persons were referred to the Post-graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak, and BPS Government Women Medical College, Khapur Kalan.
Investigating officer Surender Singh said the bus owned by Prince Tour and Travel Company, Amritsar, was on its way to New Delhi from Amritsar. The bus overturned after it was hit by a truck near Beeswan Meel Chowk.
On the complaint of bus conductor Aditya Ram, a case has been registered against the unidentified truck driver, who fled after the incident, at the Rai police station.
The bodies of the deceased women were handed over to their families, the police said.
