367 Tirthas in total

The term of the committee ended last month but recently it has been given an extension.

With the inclusion of 18 Tirthas last year, the number of Tirthas under 48-kos land has increased to 182. As per the information, Kaithal district has the maximum number of Tirthas under the 48 kos land with 73 Tirthas, followed by 46 Tirthas in Kurukshetra district, 40 in Karnal, 22 in Jind, and 1 in Panipat. There are believed to be 367 Tirthas of which so far 182 have been identified and documented by the Kurukshetra Development Board.

Chairman of the committee Madan Mohan Chhabra said “The state government had constituted a committee for the development of Tirthas, and last month the one-year term had expired. But recently the government has extended the term for two years. The committee has been making all efforts for the development of the Tirthas”. “As the model code of conduct is in force, no new work can be started, but the ongoing projects will continue, and the new tenders will be floated after the Model Code of Conduct is lifted. The committee has been making efforts to provide all facilities to the devotees and tourists who reach here from across the country,” he said.

“The preparations for International Gita Mahotsav-2024 (IGM-24) has already started. The government has appointed five members to the Haryana Antarashtriya Gita Jayanti Mela Authority too and it will help the Kurukshetra Development Board in ensuring smooth preparations for the Mahotsav,” he asserted. The celebration of the IGM will begin in November end. “The Authority will play an important role in organizing IGM events in foreign countries,” he added.
