Additional District and Sessions Judge DR Chalia of the fast-track court on Friday sentenced a man to 20 years imprisonment for repeatedly raping a minor and impregnating her.

The 16-year-old victim’s father lodged a complaint with the police that their neighbour Raheesh had repeatedly raped her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the assault. The matter came to light on March 12 last year when the girl complained of stomach pain and was taken to a doctor, who said she was pregnant.

The police got the girl medically examined and registered a case under different sections of the IPC and POCSO Act and held the accused.

The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 15,000 on Raheesh with the orders that in case of default of fine, he would serve additional imprisonment of two years. — OC
