A 20-year-old youth was shot dead in Pragati Nagar on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Vansh, a resident of Vikas Nagar. He was a gold medallist in powerlifting. According to information, Vansh was doing graduation in humanities stream and had gone to meet his classmates at Pragati Nagar on his motorcycle, which he had parked in the corner of the street.
Sometime later, Kuldeep reached the spot in a car and began honking. After hearing the horn, Vansh came out from his friend’s house to move his motorcycle. However, Kuldeep started an altercation with him. Later, Vansh’s classmates Akshita and Vanshika also came out and tried to calm down Kuldeep, but he started thrashing them. As Vansh tried to stop Kuldeep, he took out a pistol from his car and fired at him.
Sources said Kuldeep fired four to five shots at Vansh. They said the accused somehow managed to escape along with his family members after locking the house.
The passersby immediately rushed Vansh to the Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Vansh had won a gold medal in powerlifting at the district level in 2023 and won a silver medal at the national level tournament in 2024.
