2016 Jat stir: Court hears arguments in arson case

A special CBI court in Panchkula on Tuesday heard the arguments on charge against the accused in a case related to arson at the residence of former Haryana Finance Minister Capt Abhimanu during the Jat violence.

All accused were present in the court. The next date of hearing has been fixed for December 14.

During the last hearing, the court had granted bail to accused Sandeep, alias Chhotu, on the grounds that he was in custody for the past three years and four months.

The CBI had filed a chargesheet against 51 persons in connection with the violence and arson at the residential and official premises of Capt Abhimanyu in Rohtak during the Jat agitation for reservation in February 2016.

The CBI had submitted in the court that the accused had attacked and vandalised the house of the former minister and set it on fire.

The accused, in pursuance of criminal conspiracy with co-accused, attempted to murder the family members of the former minister, who were present in the house at the time of the attack. An alleged loss of nearly Rs 14 crore was caused in the arson, rioting and dacoity etc at the house, the CBI had submitted.
