22 Rohtak university scientists feature in Stanford’s top 2% list

4 faculty members acknowledged for career-long research, exceptional output

Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) has earned international recognition, with 15 faculty members and seven students featuring in the prestigious list of the world’s top 2 per cent scientists, released by Stanford University, USA, and published by Elsevier BV on September 19.

This year’s recognition includes four faculty members acknowledged both for their career-long research contributions and their exceptional output in 2024: Prof CS Pundir (Department of Biochemistry, Retd.), Prof Narasimhan B (Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences), Dr Sarvajeet Singh Gill (Centre for Biotechnology), and Dr Bijender Singh (Department of Microbiology). Their presence in both datasets underscores their lifelong impact and continuing excellence.

In addition, 11 other faculty members and seven students were named in the annual list for their significant contributions in 2024. The faculty include Dr. Naveen Kumar (Chemistry), Dr. Vineet Kumar Singla (UIET), Dr. Krishna Kant Sharma (Microbiology), Dr. Nar Singh Chauhan (Biochemistry), Dr. Devender Singh (Chemistry), Dr. Harish Dureja (Pharmaceutical Sciences), Dr. Ramphul Ohlan (IMSAR), Dr. Rajesh Punia (Physics), Dr. Deepak Chhabra (UIET), Dr. Anil Ohlan (Physics), and Dr. Jaya Parkash Yadav (Genetics). Among students, Priyanka, Anju Hooda, Kapeesha Nehra, Anuj Dalal, Isha Gupta (Chemistry), Vikas Kumar (Mechanical Engineering & Transport), and Mukesh Suresh Yogendra Kumar (Applied Physics) were recognised for impactful research output.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh congratulated the achievers for bringing laurels to the university, saying, “Our consistent focus on quality research, interdisciplinary collaboration and international standards is bearing fruit. These recognitions inspire both faculty and students to push boundaries of knowledge and innovation.”

Registrar Dr KK Gupta and Dean Academic Affairs Prof SC Malik also lauded the faculty and students for their stellar performance.

Prof Ashish Dahiya, Director (Public Relations), explained that the Stanford database covers the top 1,00,000 scientists, or those within the top 2 per cent globally, based on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted indicators and composite scores (c-score). “It classifies researchers into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields, offering one of the most authoritative global benchmarks of scientific impact,” he added.
