A 22-year-old youth was stabbed to death late on Tuesday night in Nain village, Madlauda block of Panipat. The police have booked five persons for murder and rounded up all the accused.
The deceased has been identified as Sonu alias Monu, a native of Khanoti village in Kaithal, who had been living with his maternal uncle Krishan Lal in Nain. He worked at a local liquor shop.
“We received information about the youth’s murder from the medical college at Israna on Tuesday night. A police team reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the civil hospital mortuary,” said SI Pawan Kumar, SHO, Madlauda.
On the complaint of Sonu’s cousin Ravi, police registered a case against Mohit, Ashish and Ashwani of Nain village, and Johny and his brother Rohit of Pardhana village.
According to the FIR, the five accused waylaid Sonu near Pardhana road, attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, and fled after leaving him in a pool of blood.
“The body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem examination,” said the SHO.
Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased, who gathered at the civil hospital, accused the police of “inaction” in preventing the crime.
Bhupender Singh, SP Panipat, said: “A case has been registered against the five accused and all accused have been rounded up. Probe into the matter is under way.”
