Officials of the Municipal Corporation, Faridabad (MCF), have issued 220 challans for violating the waste disposal norms in the past 48 hours in the city.

A spokesperson of the civic body said while the challans had been issued by the teams in various municipal zones, improper garbage disposal had led to the imposition of the penalties.

On Thursday and Friday, 56 challans were issued in NIT, 40 in Badkhal, 42 in Old Zone-1, 52 in Old Zone -2 and 30 in Ballabhgarh zone of the city.

He said more than 1,500 challans had been issued over several violations, including the use of polythene bags or items, burning of garbage in the open, open defecation, operation of dairies in residential areas and illegal meat shops.

The MCF has imposed a total penalty of over Rs 55 lakh in the past 12 months. The drive to contain the violations would remain on, said the official.
