A five-day workshop on scientific livestock production management has begun at the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (ICAR-NDRI). A total of 23 insurance officers from 17 states of Agriculture Insurance Company of India limited, New Delhi, are participating in the workshop.

They are being trained on latest development and technologies of livestock production. They are also being trained about breed identification, valuation of livestock, age determination, care, management of different categories of livestock, signs of healthy and sick animals and diseases. They will also be apprised of the practical feed formulation based on locally available resources relevant to insurance point of view.

Dr Dheer Singh, Director and Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-NDRI, inaugurated the programme and said the NDRI had close ties with the Agriculture Insurance Company. He added that the dairy sector was contributing significantly to the nation’s economy and was supporting the livelihoods of millions of farmers.
